History

Local favorite, better than ever.

Opened as a nine-hole course in 1969 under the name "Live Oak", the golf course attracted locals and visitors alike looking for an accessible, comfortable level of play. In 1991, the course was transformed into an 18-hole course, offering golfers greater variety and challenge. In 2012, the course went through a $2 million renovation, making Lady Bird one of the best municipal golf courses in Central Texas. The renovation included rebuilt greens, re-contoured fairways and a new set of tees, lengthening the course to 6,686 yards. New concrete cart paths were also added to enhance player enjoyment.

More improvements took place after January 2018, when the golf course came under the management of Touchstone Golf: an automated range ball dispenser was installed at the driving range, the pro shop and Red Bird Grill were recently remodeled, including the addition of a second bar and the acquisition of a full mixed beverage permit. All the bunkers were renovated in the Spring of 2021 and a Turf-Hound artificial turf with 21 hitting bays has been installed to provide a quality practice solution throughout the year. A three-phase windows and doors replacement was completed in 2022. Over the past few months, along with a multi-year tree planting project, the renovations continued with the updating of the scoring area. Due to the rising demand for water and increased summer watering restrictions a xeriscape oasis was established in front of the clubhouse, completed with the installment of a new scoreboard and a Verdin Courtyard Clock.

Overall, the course has become a challenging, but player-friendly venue for golfers of all ages.
